Hi, I’m Mari and I will be celebrating 4 years of blogging in January over at Mari’s World. What started off as a hobby soon became a way of life where I jot down my favourite things as I go through the year. You can find recipes, travel ideas and a lot of other stuff that makes up my busy life as a wife, mother and WAHM.
Looking back over 2013 my top five posts would be…
Easy Hungarian Goulash slow cooker recipe
My Hungarian great grandmother’s recipe for Hungarian Goulash made in the slow cooker. It’s not over spicy, it cooks by itself once it’s on the slow cooker and it’s not only nutritious but delicious too. Trust me and try it. I think the only thing she would say about my recipe is it needs more liquid as the Hungarians traditionally have more of a soup than a stew.
Top 10 tips for LEGOLAND Windsor
There’s nothing we like more than spending a day out somewhere as a family and LEGOLAND for us ticked all the boxes, the girls were in floods of tears when we told them we had to go home as the park was closing. We didn’t manage to do everything in the park on our first trip so we’ll definitely be returning in 2014. I thought it would be useful for other parents going to write my top tips as it’s such a great attraction to go to.
I lived in Italy for 20 years, that is half of my life so it goes without saying that their culture, their cuisine and their outlook on life is part of me too. I try to add in as many fabulous recipes as I can for two reasons – 1) so I have them all recorded in one place and can refer to them time and time again and 2) to pass them on to my children who will also be able to find them in the future. This recipe is perfect although I may add more spice to it next time, I need to re-do this to take another photograph as I’m not pleased with the one that’s up at the moment. *Adds job to To Do list*
2013 was the year Paul and I got married, in March and I was determined to make it as personal as possible. One of the ideas I chose was a Bag of Happiness as a gift to all of our guests. In monetary terms it didn’t cost much at all together but the sentiment behind each piece in the bag is priceless. Our guests adored them and I wrote a post in the hope other brides would be inspired.
The Gruffalo Trail Thorndon Park, Essex
This was a more recent visit to a beautiful park in Essex called Thorndon and here they have created a Gruffalo Trail where children can follow maps and discover the characters from their favourite book hiding in the woods. The girls came home with flushed red cheeks from all the good air, they had had their first stab at orienteering and loved it and they had found all of the characthers of the Gruffalo including his child. They adored this afternoon trip and I have vowed to explore much more of our local area in 2014.
